In 1999 around 5,778 suicides occurred in Poland, 332 more than in 1996. In 1999, on average 16 Poles committed suicide every day.

Poland reported 15 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 14.31 suicides per 100,000 people.

Poland is a country with a high rate of suicide.

Of the 5,778 recorded suicide cases in 1999, 4,894 were men suicides and 884 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 26.2 per 100,000 men and for women 4.5 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Poland suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 741 homicides in Poland, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 7.8 suicides.
