In Panama there were 7.08 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10 self-harm per 100.000 people.
Of the 255 recorded suicide cases in 2009, 224 were men suicides and 31 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 12.54 per 100,000 men and for women 1.74 per 100,000 female.
Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Panama. However, in Panama in 2009 there were there were 562 homicides, and therefore, number of deaths by murder is far greater than people to take their own lives. There were 2.2 homicides per suicide.
