Suicides increase in Namibia

In 2008 occurred 182 suicides in Namibia. This year, 1 more people committed suicide than in 2007.

Namibia had 9 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.96 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 182 recorded suicide cases in 2008, 140 were men suicides and 43 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 14.13 per 100,000 men and for women 4.06 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Namibia. However, in Namibia in 2008 there were there were 354 homicides, and therefore, number of deaths by murder is far greater than people to take their own lives. There were 1.9 homicides per suicide.
