Number of suicides falls in Namibia

In 2001 occurred 186 suicides in Namibia. This year, 4 fewer people committed suicide than in 2000.

Namibia had 10.18 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.88 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 186 recorded suicide cases in 2001, 145 were men suicides and 41 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 16.18 per 100,000 men and for women 4.27 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Namibia. However, in Namibia in 2001 there were there were 353 homicides, then, homicides are more common than suicides. There were 1.9 homicides per suicide.
