Suicides grow in Liberia

By 2009, suicides in Liberia increased by 15 people to at 237 suicides

In Liberia there were 6.32 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 237 recorded suicide cases in 2009, 189 were men suicides and 48 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 9.79 per 100,000 men and for women 2.45 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Liberia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 145 homicides in Liberia, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.6 suicides.
