In 2008 around 222 suicides occurred in Liberia, 7 more than in 2007.
Liberia reported 6.15 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.96 self-harm per 100.000 people.
Of the 222 recorded suicide cases in 2008, 177 were men suicides and 45 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 9.48 per 100,000 men and for women 2.33 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Liberia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 177 homicides in Liberia, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.3 suicides.
