Latvia has a very high suicide rate

By 2001, suicides in Latvia increased by 62 people to at 708 suicides In Latvia, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

In Latvia there were 30.3 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 10.88 suicides per 100,000 people.

Latvia has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 708 recorded suicide cases in 2001, 571 were men suicides and 137 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 53.1 per 100,000 men and for women 10.9 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Latvia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 219 homicides in Latvia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.2 suicides.
