Latvia has a very high suicide rate

In 1999 around 764 suicides occurred in Latvia, 76 less than in 1998. On average, there are 2 suicides per day.

Latvia reported 32 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 14.31 suicides per 100,000 people.

Latvia has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 764 recorded suicide cases in 1999, 593 were men suicides and 171 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 53.9 per 100,000 men and for women 13.3 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Latvia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 229 homicides in Latvia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.3 suicides.
