Jamaica has a low suicide rate

In 2008 around 26 suicides occurred in Jamaica, 7 more than in 2007.

Jamaica reported 0.97 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.96 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Jamaica has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 26 recorded suicide cases in 2008, 21 were men suicides and 5 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 1.56 per 100,000 men and for women 0.37 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Jamaica. However, in Jamaica in 2008 there were there were 1,619 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 62.3 homicides per suicide.
