Suicides increase in Iceland

In 1983 occurred 40 suicides in Iceland. This year, 18 more people committed suicide than in 1982.

Iceland had 16.9 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 15.81 suicides per 100,000 people.

Iceland, has a relatively low rate of suicide per inhabitants.

Of the 40 recorded suicide cases in 1983, 33 were men suicides and 7 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 27.7 per 100,000 men and for women 5.9 per 100,000 female.
