Number of suicides increases in Fiji

In 2009 around 81 suicides occurred in Fiji, 1 more than in 2008.

Fiji reported 9.59 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 81 recorded suicide cases in 2009, 62 were men suicides and 20 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 13.4 per 100,000 men and for women 4.41 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Fiji suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 29 homicides in Fiji, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.8 suicides.
