Estonia has a very high suicide rate

By 1997, suicides in Estonia increased by 26 people to at 525 suicides In Estonia, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

In Estonia there were 37.5 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 14.89 suicides per 100,000 people.

Estonia has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 525 recorded suicide cases in 1997, 434 were men suicides and 91 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 67.2 per 100,000 men and for women 12.1 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Estonia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 178 homicides in Estonia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.9 suicides.
