In 1988 occurred 1,336 suicides in Denmark. This year, 94 fewer people committed suicide than in 1987. In 1988, on average 4 Danes committed suicide every day.

Denmark had 26 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 15.07 suicides per 100,000 people.

Denmark has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 1,336 recorded suicide cases in 1988, 843 were men suicides and 493 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 33.3 per 100,000 men and for women 19 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
