Croatia has a very high suicide rate

In 1998 around 1,029 suicides occurred in Croatia, 80 more than in 1997. On average, there are 3 suicides per day.

Croatia reported 22.7 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 14.84 suicides per 100,000 people.

Croatia has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 1,029 recorded suicide cases in 1998, 745 were men suicides and 284 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 34.2 per 100,000 men and for women 12.1 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Croatia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 105 homicides in Croatia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 9.8 suicides.
