Croatia has a very high suicide rate

In 1997 occurred 949 suicides in Croatia. This year, 53 fewer people committed suicide than in 1996. On average, there are 3 suicides per day.

Croatia had 20.9 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 14.89 suicides per 100,000 people.

Croatia has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 949 recorded suicide cases in 1997, 693 were men suicides and 256 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 31.8 per 100,000 men and for women 10.9 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Croatia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 118 homicides in Croatia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 8 suicides.
