Costa Rica has a low suicide rate

By 1997, suicides in Costa Rica increased by 22 people to at 188 suicides

In Costa Rica there were 5.2 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 14.89 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Costa Rica has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 188 recorded suicide cases in 1997, 160 were men suicides and 28 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 8.8 per 100,000 men and for women 1.6 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Costa Rica. However, in Costa Rica in 1997 there were there were 210 homicides, then, homicides are more common than suicides. There were 1.1 homicides per suicide.
