Chile had 12.5 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.96 suicides per 100,000 people.
Of the 2,088 recorded suicide cases in 2008, 1,674 were men suicides and 414 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 20.4 per 100,000 men and for women 4.9 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Chile suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 588 homicides in Chile, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.6 suicides.
