Chile has a low suicide rate

In 1988 occurred 697 suicides in Chile. This year, 4 more people committed suicide than in 1987. In Chile, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Chile had 5.5 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 15.07 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Chile has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 697 recorded suicide cases in 1988, 580 were men suicides and 117 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 9.2 per 100,000 men and for women 1.8 per 100,000 female.
