Suicides increase in Bulgaria

In 2008 occurred 939 suicides in Bulgaria. This year, 37 more people committed suicide than in 2007. On average, there are 3 suicides per day.

Bulgaria had 12.5 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.96 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 939 recorded suicide cases in 2008, 694 were men suicides and 245 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 19 per 100,000 men and for women 6.4 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Bulgaria suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 172 homicides in Bulgaria, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 5.5 suicides.
