In 2001 occurred 1,314 suicides in Bulgaria. This year, 69 fewer people committed suicide than in 2000. In 2001, on average 4 Bulgarians committed suicide every day.

Bulgaria had 16.4 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 10.88 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 1,314 recorded suicide cases in 2001, 951 were men suicides and 363 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 24.4 per 100,000 men and for women 8.8 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Bulgaria suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 308 homicides in Bulgaria, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 4.3 suicides.
