Bulgaria - Intentional self-harm

In 1997 occurred 1,465 suicides in Bulgaria. This year, 61 fewer people committed suicide than in 1996. In 1997, on average 4 Bulgarians committed suicide every day.

Bulgaria had 17.6 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 14.89 suicides per 100,000 people.

Bulgaria has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 1,465 recorded suicide cases in 1997, 1,002 were men suicides and 463 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 24.7 per 100,000 men and for women 10.9 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Bulgaria suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 398 homicides in Bulgaria, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.7 suicides.
