In 2002, the national minimum wage in Romania remained fixed at €50.3 per month, that is 604 euros per year, taking into account 12 payments per year.
If we look at the minimum salary in Romanian new lei, which is the official currency in Romania, we can see that, this year, it was 175 Romanian new lei and accordingly, the national minimum wage has been raised 35 Romanian new lei per month from the previous year, 25%. This increase is less than the CPI of 2002 which was 30.3%,and so workers, despite the raise, have lost buying power in the last year.
If we look at the ranking of the national minimum wage that we publish, Romania is in 57 nd place, so it is among the countries with the lowest minimum salary of the 70 of the list.
