The national minimum wage increase in Ghana

In 2009, the national minimum wage in Ghana remained fixed at €42.1 per month, that is 505 euros per year, taking into account 12 payments per year.

If we look at the minimum salary in Ghana cedi, which is the official currency in Ghana, we can see that, this year, it was 71.6 Ghana cedi and accordingly, the national minimum wage has been raised 10.8 Ghana cedi per month from the previous year, 17.76%. This increase is less than the CPI of 2008 which was 18.2%,and so workers, despite the raise, have lost buying power in the last year.

If we look at the ranking of the national minimum wage that we publish, Ghana is in 79 nd place, so it is among the countries with the lowest minimum salary of the 92 of the list.
