Suicides increase in Timor-Leste

In 2008 occurred 69 suicides in Timor-Leste. This year, 3 more people committed suicide than in 2007.

Timor-Leste had 6.5 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.96 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 69 recorded suicide cases in 2008, 46 were men suicides and 22 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 8.63 per 100,000 men and for women 4.42 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Timor-Leste suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 35 homicides in Timor-Leste, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2 suicides.
