Suicides increase in Syria

In 2009 occurred 427 suicides in Syria. This year, 43 more people committed suicide than in 2008. In Syria, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Syria had 2.02 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Syria has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 427 recorded suicide cases in 2009, 332 were men suicides and 95 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 3.01 per 100,000 men and for women 0.88 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Syria. However, in Syria in 2009 there were there were 476 homicides, then, homicides are more common than suicides. There were 1.1 homicides per suicide.
