Number of suicides falls in Sierra Leone

In 2009 occurred 781 suicides in Sierra Leone. This year, 17 fewer people committed suicide than in 2008. On average, there are 2 suicides per day.

Sierra Leone had 12.44 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 781 recorded suicide cases in 2009, 530 were men suicides and 250 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 16.97 per 100,000 men and for women 7.98 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Sierra Leone suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 158 homicides in Sierra Leone, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 4.9 suicides.
