Of the 2,838 recorded suicide cases in 1998, 2,350 were men suicides and 488 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 21.3 per 100,000 men and for women 4.2 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Romania suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 561 homicides in Romania, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 5.1 suicides.
