Number of suicides falls in New Zealander

In 2000 occurred 458 suicides in New Zealander. This year, 58 fewer people committed suicide than in 1999. In New Zealander, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

New Zealander had 11.9 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.98 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 458 recorded suicide cases in 2000, 375 were men suicides and 83 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 19.8 per 100,000 men and for women 4.2 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In New Zealander suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 52 homicides in New Zealander, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 8.8 suicides.
