In 2008 around 1,831 suicides occurred in Nepal, 32 less than in 2007. In 2008, on average 5 Nepali committed suicide every day.

Nepal reported 6.87 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.96 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 1,831 recorded suicide cases in 2008, 959 were men suicides and 872 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 7.24 per 100,000 men and for women 6.39 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Nepal suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 892 homicides in Nepal, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.1 suicides.
