In 2001 around 2,010 suicides occurred in Nepal, 68 less than in 2000. In 2001, on average 6 Nepali committed suicide every day.

Nepal reported 8.26 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.88 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 2,010 recorded suicide cases in 2001, 1,055 were men suicides and 955 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 8.39 per 100,000 men and for women 7.72 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Nepal suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 848 homicides in Nepal, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.4 suicides.
