Suicides decreased in Malta

In 2008 around 14 suicides occurred in Malta, 12 less than in 2007.

Malta reported 3.4 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.96 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Malta, has a relatively low rate of suicide per inhabitants.

Of the 14 recorded suicide cases in 2008, 12 were men suicides and 2 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 5.9 per 100,000 men and for women 1 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Malta suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 6 homicides in Malta, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.3 suicides.
