Malta has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.
Of the 27 recorded suicide cases in 1999, 22 were men suicides and 5 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 11.7 per 100,000 men and for women 2.6 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Malta suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 10 homicides in Malta, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.7 suicides.
