Of the 1,552 recorded suicide cases in 1999, 1,287 were men suicides and 265 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 78 per 100,000 men and for women 14.1 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Lithuania suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 309 homicides in Lithuania, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 5 suicides.
