In 1982 occurred 1,173 suicides in Lithuania. This year, 18 more people committed suicide than in 1981. In 1982, on average 3 Lithuanians committed suicide every day.

Lithuania had 33.9 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 15.68 suicides per 100,000 people.

Lithuania has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 1,173 recorded suicide cases in 1982, 948 were men suicides and 225 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 58.3 per 100,000 men and for women 12.3 per 100,000 female.
