Suicides increase in Iraq

In 2008 occurred 735 suicides in Iraq. This year, 32 more people committed suicide than in 2007. On average, there are 2 suicides per day.

Iraq had 2.5 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.96 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Iraq has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 735 recorded suicide cases in 2008, 420 were men suicides and 315 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 2.89 per 100,000 men and for women 2.14 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Iraq. However, in Iraq in 2008 there were there were 4,596 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 6.3 homicides per suicide.
