Hungary has a very high suicide rate

In 2008 occurred 2,477 suicides in Hungary. This year, 27 more people committed suicide than in 2007. In 2008, on average 7 Hungarians committed suicide every day.

Hungary had 24.7 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 9.96 suicides per 100,000 people.

Hungary has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 2,477 recorded suicide cases in 2008, 1,911 were men suicides and 566 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 40.1 per 100,000 men and for women 10.7 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Hungary suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 181 homicides in Hungary, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 13.7 suicides.
