By 2009, suicides in Brazil increased by 166 people to at 9,372 suicides In 2009, on average 26 Brazilians committed suicide every day.

Of the 9,372 recorded suicide cases in 2009, 7,500 were men suicides and 1,872 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 7.9 per 100,000 men and for women 1.9 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Brazil. However, in Brazil in 2009 there were there were 51,461 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 5.5 homicides per suicide.
