In 2008 around 9,206 suicides occurred in Brazil, 339 more than in 2007. In 2008, on average 25 Brazilians committed suicide every day.

Brazil reported 4.8 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.96 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 9,206 recorded suicide cases in 2008, 7,289 were men suicides and 1,917 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 7.8 per 100,000 men and for women 2 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Brazil. However, in Brazil in 2008 there were there were 50,135 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 5.4 homicides per suicide.
