Brazil has a low suicide rate

In 1999 occurred 6,530 suicides in Brazil. This year, 448 fewer people committed suicide than in 1998. In 1999, on average 18 Brazilians committed suicide every day.

Brazil had 3.8 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 14.31 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Brazil has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 6,530 recorded suicide cases in 1999, 5,300 were men suicides and 1,230 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 6.2 per 100,000 men and for women 1.4 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Brazil. However, in Brazil in 1999 there were there were 42,914 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 6.6 homicides per suicide.
