Brazil has a low suicide rate

In 1997 around 6,919 suicides occurred in Brazil, 181 more than in 1996. In 1997, on average 19 Brazilians committed suicide every day.

Brazil reported 4.2 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 14.89 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Brazil has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 6,919 recorded suicide cases in 1997, 5,496 were men suicides and 1,423 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 6.6 per 100,000 men and for women 1.7 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Brazil. However, in Brazil in 1997 there were there were 40,507 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 5.9 homicides per suicide.
