Suicides increase in Botswana

In 2008 occurred 210 suicides in Botswana. This year, 7 more people committed suicide than in 2007.

Botswana had 10.95 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.96 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 210 recorded suicide cases in 2008, 158 were men suicides and 52 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 16.04 per 100,000 men and for women 5.09 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Botswana. However, in Botswana in 2008 there were there were 281 homicides, then, homicides are more common than suicides. There were 1.3 homicides per suicide.
