Suicides fell in Uruguay

By 2009, suicides in Uruguay increased by 5 people to at 512 suicides In Uruguay, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

In Uruguay there were 15.15 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 10 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 512 recorded suicide cases in 2009, 411 were men suicides and 101 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 25.49 per 100,000 men and for women 5.81 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Uruguay suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 226 homicides in Uruguay, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.3 suicides.
