Suicides decreased in Uruguay

In 2008 around 517 suicides occurred in Uruguay, 71 less than in 2007. In Uruguay, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Uruguay reported 15.38 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 9.96 suicides per 100,000 people.

Uruguay is a country with a high rate of suicide.

Of the 517 recorded suicide cases in 2008, 402 were men suicides and 115 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 25 per 100,000 men and for women 6.66 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Uruguay suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 221 homicides in Uruguay, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.3 suicides.
