Suicides increase in Haiti

In 2009 occurred 915 suicides in Haiti. This year, 60 more people committed suicide than in 2008. On average, there are 3 suicides per day.

Haiti had 9.4 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 915 recorded suicide cases in 2009, 683 were men suicides and 232 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 14.12 per 100,000 men and for women 4.74 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Haiti suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 598 homicides in Haiti, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.5 suicides.
