Suicides fell in Guatemala

By 2009, suicides in Guatemala increased by 186 people to at 550 suicides In Guatemala, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

In Guatemala there were 3.84 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 550 recorded suicide cases in 2009, 382 were men suicides and 168 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 5.5 per 100,000 men and for women 2.39 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Guatemala. However, in Guatemala in 2009 there were there were 6,498 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 11.8 homicides per suicide.
