Suicides increase in Cabo Verde

In 2008 occurred 42 suicides in Cabo Verde. This year, 4 more people committed suicide than in 2007.

Cabo Verde had 8.47 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.96 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 42 recorded suicide cases in 2008, 28 were men suicides and 14 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 10.88 per 100,000 men and for women 5.49 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Cabo Verde suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 34 homicides in Cabo Verde, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.2 suicides.
