Belgium had 19.8 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 14.84 suicides per 100,000 people.
Belgium has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.
Of the 2,022 recorded suicide cases in 1998, 1,463 were men suicides and 557 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 29.3 per 100,000 men and for women 10.7 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Belgium suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 145 homicides in Belgium, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 13.9 suicides.
