Belarus has a very high suicide rate

In 2009 occurred 2,957 suicides in Belarus. This year, 102 more people committed suicide than in 2008. In 2009, on average 8 Belarusians committed suicide every day.

Belarus had 31.19 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 10 suicides per 100,000 people.

Belarus has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 2,957 recorded suicide cases in 2009, 2,373 were men suicides and 584 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 53.72 per 100,000 men and for women 11.54 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Belarus suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 487 homicides in Belarus, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 6.1 suicides.
