NMW Guatemala 2006

The national minimum wage increase in Guatemala

In 2006, the national minimum wage in Guatemala remained fixed at €174 per month, that is 2,088 euros per year, taking into account 12 payments per year.

If we look at the minimum salary in Quetzal, which is the official currency in Guatemala, we can see that, this year, it was 1,559 Quetzal and accordingly, the national minimum wage has been raised 119 Quetzal per month from the previous year, 8.26%. This increase is less than the CPI of 2005 which was 8.6%,and so workers, despite the raise, have lost buying power in the last year.

If we look at the ranking of the national minimum wage that we publish, Guatemala is in 33 nd place, so it is among the countries with the lowest minimum salary of the 81 of the list.

The National Minimum Wage (NMW) of a country is the minimum amount (lowest salary) per hour, per day, or per month that employers may legally pay to workers.
