If we look at the minimum salary in Quetzal, which is the official currency in Guatemala, we can see that, this year, it was 1,150 Quetzal and accordingly, the national minimum wage has been raised 70 Quetzal per month from the previous year, 6.48%. This increase is less than the CPI of 2001 which was 8.9%,and so workers, despite the raise, have lost buying power in the last year.
